One Drop for Flint

Welcome to One Drop for Flint!  We’re so glad you’re here, and hope that any questions you have about who we are and what we’re doing will be answered on this page!  If not, please email us at onedropforflint@gmail.com or message us on Twitter (@onedropforflint) with your questions!

Of course, the most important question is quite simply: What is this?
One Drop for Flint is a charity event that seeks to bring D&D/TTRPG content creators and personalities together to raise money and awareness for the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.  This started with our streaming group (“Forever DM” No More) wanting to do a charity livestream, and it being suggested by one of our members that we focus on Flint, Michigan.  The rest of us agreed, and One Drop for Flint has grown out of that initial idea.

Before we go too much further, there are a couple of important points to keep in mind:

We are not a charity organization. That requires legal legwork and money that we simply don’t have. We’re just a group of streamers who want to do something good for other people. Monetary donations will (after transaction fees from PayPal) go directly towards bottled water and the means to distribute it.

Flint, Michigan has been without clean drinking water for over five years. The people in Flint have been forgotten about and left to fend for themselves by local, state, and federal government, and most charity organizations as well. They have finally been given the money to fix the poisoned water pipes, but that will take until at least the end of 2020 to complete, and if you’ve ever worked in or around construction, you know that, generally speaking, build estimates are guesses at best. The residents of Flint need clean drinking water until the project is complete. That’s where we come in.

You may be wondering what we are hoping to achieve by setting up this event.  Below, we outline our basic plan for what we’d like to do with any monetary donations, as well as physical goods/services that are contributed for the event.

The Plan: The plan is to host a charity stream on August 24, 2019 on our Twitch channel.  We will be running a 24-hour streaming event, during which we will have multiple other groups streaming a pre-written adventure that they put their own spin on!  Each group will occupy a 2-3 hour time slot from 12am on Saturday, August 24 until 11:59pm that night!
We will be hosting multiple giveaways during the streams, and potentially a raffle for some bigger-ticket items. At no point will a donation be required to enter the stream giveaways, though it will be encouraged.  Participation in the Twitch chat will be a necessity, however.
Once the streaming event is complete, those of us who are able to from Forever DM No More/One Drop for Flint (which are basically the same group) will travel to Flint to purchase, transport, and distribute the bottled water at one of the city’s designated distribution spots. This process will be recorded and uploaded (possibly live-streamed) both as proof of deed done and as a tangible reminder that your donation went somewhere that matters.  (Note: The team’s transportation costs will not be pulled from donations!  This is on our own dime!  Your donation will not be paying for our airfare/lodging/meals!)
If this charity stream goes as well as it seems it’s going to, it will certainly not be the last one we do. Our plan is to keep supporting the people in Flint until their pipes are fixed and the whole city has clean drinking water for good.

FAQ:

Q: WHEN?!
A:
At midnight, Eastern Standard Time, on August 24, 2019, the “Forever DM” No More Twitch channel will begin broadcasting a “welcome to the show, this is what to expect” introduction to the One Drop for Flint streaming event.  After that, our channel will be host to a streaming group that will kick off the proceedings.  We are looking to have groups run for 2-3 hours each, with a short break during streams, until 11:59pm on August 24, 2019.  The event will culminate with the One Drop for Flint crew showcasing how much money we’ve raised and tallying how many bottles of water that money will purchase.

Q: Where is my monetary donation going?
A: All donations made to the Ko-Fi page will be transferred to a PayPal account specifically designated for this event. From there, the funds will be withdrawn, PayPal fees will be accounted for, and the final total will be announced via Twitter @OneDropforFlint.
The next step is to actually purchase the water. We will be going to a local bulk store and purchasing the water ourselves if possible, and transporting it to a distribution center and spending the weekend handing the water out and running D&D games for people who want to play.
If there are any funds remaining, they will be pooled for the next event.  At no point will your donations be used for personal purchases.  We will be providing receipts and screenshots along the way so that there is absolute transparency between us and the community.

Q: What is being done with my non-monetary donation?
A: Any donation that is not monetary in nature is subject to being given away for free during our event stream. If this is not something you desire, please let us know as soon as possible. The goal here is to drive up as much fundraising as we can while still having fun doing it, and giveaways during a D&D stream are always a good time!

Q: Aren’t the pipes in Flint fixed by now?
A: The short answer: No. Flint has been given the money for the pipes to be fixed, but the majority of communities within the city still have lead-polluted drinking water coming from their faucets. Yes, there are filters, but not everyone has one, and not everyone trusts them. There are documented medical effects based around lead poisoning that are still happening. Until the pipes are fixed, and until the people of Flint can trust their tap water implicitly, we will be helping out as much as we can.

Q: Who is getting behind this event?
A: D&D Beyond, for starters!  That’s right, the official digital toolset of 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons is helping us out with this event by hosting the stream(s), providing prizes, and being supportive on social media!
Additionally, the team over at “Forever DM” No More (@fdmnomore) are the driving force behind One Drop for Flint’s day-t0-day operations and oversight.
Hannah Bailey, Marc Schubert, Jeremy Johnson, DeForest Koenig, Megan Church, and Hobert Church are the names behind the scenes.
Our streaming partners for this event are:
Thread Raiders
Rise of the Demigods
Welcome to the Party

We have a few more special guests lined up, and you can see who is playing when on our new Schedule page!

Q: How can I help?
A: If you’re reading this, it’s hopefully because you saw us on social media and were interested in helping out! There are three easy ways to do that:

1. Like, Share, Retweet, Comment. This is by far the simplest way to help us out. Spread the word to people who don’t play D&D, who don’t use Twitter, or who just haven’t heard about this event. You never know when someone is going to want to help out; it’s how this whole thing started!

2.
Donate funds via our Ko-Fi page! https://ko-fi.com/onedropforflint
Every little bit of money helps, and Ko-Fi makes it super simple to donate!

3.
Donate items/goods/services via our Google Document for giveaways during the stream event! https://t.co/M0xkSdhk1Y

We have people donating dice, books, artwork, and even a custom one-shot for up to five players! Anything helps, and we are appreciative of every person who fills out that form. We want to thank all of you so much for your amazing support. The response from the D&D/TTRPG community has been absolutely astounding, and it keeps growing. With your help, we are going to improve the lives of so many people, one drop at a time.

Thank you!!
